Exercise: Visual dynamics

I chose my favourite typeface Franklin Gothic AT which I used a lot in Graphic design 1.

I played with the grid 4x4 and made some changes within the grid because of the "juxtaposition". Some I liked some not so I reorganised them till I thought it is balanced. I do not like when there was not a smooth connection between shapes within the squares. The grid changes the whole perception to a more orderly form. The squares are disconnected.

The last step was to colourised the composition. I played with some options, but it was really randomly done. I used the same colour as for the postcard. The tone versions are more friendly, softly, vividly form of the work. I was not overthinking where I should use this colour or nor. I just pick up the colours from Adobe application for colour themes to have the colours right.

It tempted me to use another grid. I opened the book Grid Systems by Brockmann, and I liked this example:

It is grid 4x5. The composition has a lot of white space, and that was what I want to see here:

I love this version more. It is cleaner, more delicate, I think more balanced.

Great exercise, I think there are endless possibilities to play with the shapes and colours etc.
